From our chair James Bacon:
The whole team is delighted to be bringing the Worldcon to Ireland for the first time. It’s a huge achievement and we are very proud to be able to welcome thousands of fans to this beautiful country that is steeped in story telling.

We have fantastic guests and we will be building an exciting programme covering all aspects of science fiction, fantasy and horror in all media, including prose, comics, art, film, cosplay, science, TV to name a few in what will be a fabulous celebration here in Dublin.

On behalf of all the people who have worked very hard to help win the bid I am very grateful. We are honoured by the huge support and friendliness we have received around the world and we all look forward to warmly welcoming thousands of fans and professionals to a fantastic five day weekend at our fabulous venue The Convention Centre in the heart of Dublin.

As a volunteer organisation we love the passion and vitality that fans posses and the diversity and variety that is within the wide ranging genre that we’ll be celebrating. We are driven by this passion and look forward to seeing you enjoy, discuss, learn, admire, find interest and be entertained by the multitude of activities and elements taking place at Dublin 2019. -James

Ireland has a rich tradition of storytelling. It is a land famous for its ancient myths and legends, great playwrights, award-winning novelists, innovative comics artists, and groundbreaking illustrators. It has a well established science fiction and fantasy fandom, and active gaming scene. Celebrating Ireland’s rich cultural heritage, contemporary creators and future directions at a World Science Fiction Convention in Dublin would be an honour.

Ireland has been the home of many science fiction and fantasy writers. Historically, Bram Stoker, Lord Dunsany, Flann O’Brien and Sinéad de Valera are among our ranks, through to more recent authors such as Eoin Colfer and Kate Thompson. Anne McCaffrey and Harry Harrison have joined those who have made Ireland their home.
