Noreascon Four will be the 62nd World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon). And we're hoping to make it the best yet five days full of fascinating people, interesting conversations, exciting spectacles.
Hotel reservations are now open (there are 1800 rooms blocked in our two hotels, so there's no rush ).
Progress Report 5 was mailed on December 18 to members of record as of December 1, 2003. You can view the PDF version of Progress Report 5 if you're impatient.
Lots! We've been working hard on planning the best convention we can.
We're listing a few examples here of what's been going on our site map hasn't quite caught up to everything new, but should be caught up in a day or two..
Learn more about one of our guests: Fast Forward, a monthly half-hour television series in Arlington, Virginia, has shared its recent interview of Terry Pratchett with us. If you've got Quicktime, and a broadband connection, you can sample Terry's humour. (Fast Forward says, "Yes, the video is a small, fuzzy window running at a low frame rate. But be forewarned - even in this heavily compressed form, the file is over 13MB!")
Find out about our plans for Ankh-Morpork in the Convention Center (and help us make it happen!)
If you're interested in being part of our Dealers' Room, application information is now available.
Calling all costumers! We're planning for a truly spectacular Masquerade on Sunday, 5 September 2004, and we'd like you to participate. Harper Collins, Terry Pratchett's publisher, is offering a cash prize for the best Discworld-related costume. Terry also has a special award of his own, The Golden Luggage, which he'll be presenting to his favorite costume of the evening.
Tell us about Program items that interest you; schedule a Special Interest Group meeting; or help us plan an Orientation that can captivate folks who are new to Worldcon.
Reimagine Exhibits and let us hear your thoughts on fresh ways to look at our fannish history. In addition, we've highlighted some of our special exhibits: author photos, examples of Hugo trophies since the first ones were awarded in 1953, and NASA materials, among others.
Children's Services wants to hear from parents and kids about what would make a good Worldcon for them.
Check back here often for information about what we're doing and what we're planning and who'll be joining us. We're adding information as quickly as we can, but if you've got questions that aren't answered here on the website, check out our Contact us page for an address to write to; if that doesn't help, info@noreascon.org is the best place to start.
Talk back to us! We've got web logs for general Noreascon news, program suggestions, re-designing exhibits, restaurant reviews, and meeting minutes.
If you're local to Boston (or even if you'll just be visiting), please feel free to come to our next open meeting on January 7, 2004 at 8:00 PM at the NESFA Clubhouse, located at 504 Medford Street, in Somerville, MA.
Use our In Memoriam web log to help us to remember the friends we've lost this year.
Noreascon Four will be run by Massachusetts Convention Fandom, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded to promote science fiction fandom and education.
