Imitation's the Sincerest Form of Flattery

Part of the art of Programming for a Worldcon is understanding that good ideas can survive (and even thrive) with transplantation to a new environment. Even now, we have our spies out at conventions around the world collecting ideas (and we're delving into the past for more!)

But if you know of things that have been particularly cool or fun at your local convention, and you think we might not know of them, please let us know at program@noreascon.org.

In addition to programming ideas that we borrow or imitate, we're also planning on developing new program ideas as well. We'd love it if you added your suggestions to our Program Brainstorming Blog.

Orientation Project

We're especially interested in putting together our "Orientation Project"—program ideas especially designed to help relatively new fans get the most out of the Worldcon (just in case the cloning thing isn't ready by September 2004).

We've been doing "Is This Your First Worldcon?" panels for a number of years now. We'd like to do something more… dynamic. More… lively. Most importantly, we'd like to do things that are actually useful for relatively new fans.

So, if you've attended only a single Worldcon or two, look around our website, think about your previous Worldcon experiences, and then tell us what sorts of things you'd like an introduction to at Noreascon 4.

  • Do you want to go "backstage" and find out what's going on during Worldcon set-up?
  • Do you want a walking tour of the convention?
  • Do you want an explanation of how things like "Kaffeeklatches" or "Open Filk Circles" or the Gaming rooms work?

Help us figure out what kinds of Orientation panels and activities would be interesting and useful for fans new to Worldcons.

If you've never been to a Worldcon — and particularly if you're still making up your mind whether to come to Noreascon 4 — tell us what sorts of things on our website are confusing or intriguing. You might give us some new ideas for Orientation — or you might find your questions being answered in our FAQ!

Please send us your ideas at program@noreascon.org. We're looking forward to hearing from you.
