About Us

What is an Eastercon?

Eastercon is the British National Science Fiction Convention. It takes place in a different city each year, but always over the 4-day Easter holiday weekend.

The 2005 Eastercon, known as Paragon 2, will take place in Hanover International, Hinckley, Leicestershire. You can find their web site here.

Web sites of previous Eastercons are available as follows:

2000 - 2Kon
2001 - Paragon
2002 - Helicon 2
2003 - Seacon 03
2004 - Concourse

More general information about Eastercons is available here.

Organising Committee

Chair: Farah Mendlesohn - Farah has organized a number of academic conferences on science fiction including two for the Science Fiction Foundation and one for the Science Fiction Research Association. She is currently Vice President of the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts. Her book Terry Pratchett: Guilty of Literature, co-edited with Andrew M. Butler and Edward James, was a nominee in the 2001 Hugos. In 2003 Farah won a BSFA Award for her introduction to The Cambridge Companion to Science Fiction.

Deputy Chair & Programming: Simon Bradshaw - Simon Bradshaw got involved in fandom through the Imperial College Science Fiction Society. He has co-chaired Seccon and SecconD, two small general-interest science fiction conventions, and ConteXXt, the 2002 Unicon. Simon helped run the science programme for Intersection, the 1995 Worldcon, and is currently Chair of the Science Fiction Foundation. An electronics engineer with an MSc in Satellite Communications, Simon is now studying law part-time. He manages to read a book now and then.

Guest liaison & Publications: Bridget Bradshaw - Bridget was the Chair of Evolution, the 1996 Eastercon.

Physical Logistics: Noel Collyer - Noel has been involved with Fandom since the mid '80s helping out with various conventions, usually ones with fun as the main motive. He has served on the committee of 'The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy Appreciation Society' for 7-8 years as Membership Secretary and for two years as President. Noel is also a past winner (2001) of the prestigious Doc. Weir Award for services to British fandom and once wrote an edition of 'Fermat on the Beach'. In his spare time he shoots paper targets, looks after a cat that's deaf and gradually going senile and is designing the biggest shed in the known universe (just to beat Steve Lawson's one).

Webmistress: Cheryl Morgan - Cheryl has worked as Webmistress for Helicon 2, the 2002 Eastercon, and for ConJosé, the 2002 World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon). She is Assistant to the Head of Events and Deputy Masquerade Director for Interaction, the 2005 Worldcon, has run Green Room for the Australian Costumers' Ball and has worked as a Den Mother at several Worldcons and Westercons. Cheryl's fanzine, Emerald City, was nominated for a Hugo Award in 2003 and 2004.

Publications: Wendy Graham

Treasurer: Judi Hodgkin: Judi Hodgkin is the new blood to the committee. She has organised several non-sf conferences in her scattered past. Judi works as a freelance IT Consultant specialising in Processes and Procedures and has worked as a Project Manager. She hasn't been nominated or awarded for anything yet, but there's still time...

Sponsorship: Iain Emsley

Hotel Liaison: Jamie Scott - Jamie got involved with fandom at the Glasgow University Science Fiction Society and was membership secretary for ConVivial, a small Victorian-themed convention. He has been known to loudly declare that he would never get involved running large cons. Jamie also dabbles in physics in his spare time.

Andrew J. Wilson

Budget Advisor & Think Tank: Paul Oldroyd - Paul ruthlessly co-ordinated Seacon 03 after its inception during a moment of madness at Paragon. He was also in charge of the literary programme stream at Seacon ... but what you have to remember about Paul is, he collects Dr Who books. And Star Trek novelisations. And Star Wars, and Babylon 5, and Buffy, and, and ..... So despite his sensitive fannish features, impeccable conrunning history, and deeply sercon demeanour, remember - he's a *media* fan. He even likes Episode One.

Dealers' Room: Chris Donaldson - On the Seacon 03 committee Chris was responsible for memberships. At most Eastercons she can be found in the Dealers' Room selling jewelry.

US Agent: Kevin Standlee - Kevin was co-chair of ConJosé the 2002 Worldcon in San José, California. He has also worked at executive commitee level on a number of other Worldcons. He will be Fan Guest of Honor at CascadiaCon, the 2005 North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC).
