Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Your Chair is a well-known academic, will your program be heavily literary?

A. Yes. It will also be heavily into film, costuming, anime and all the stuff you associate with an  Eastercon. This is a general science fiction convention and we intend to keep it that way. We intend to cover all the traditional Eastercon program areas, plus perhaps a few more. The idea is to produce the best possible programme for the largest number of fans.

Q. What do you folks know about Glasgow?

A. On our committee: Jamie lives in Glasgow, Andrew lives in Edinburgh, Chris was born and brought up in Glasgow, and we have all been to Glasgow for various conventions.

Q. Why do you only have one Guest of Honour?

A. Because we have only confirmed arrangements with one person so far. We are in the process of choosing and confirming our other guests.Their names will be released at Novacon.

Q. Why don't you have a hotel deal yet?

A. Although we have been planning to bid for an Eastercon for some time, we got somewhat rushed into the process at Concourse, the 2004 Eastercon, when no bidders for 2006 came forward. The staff of Interaction, the 2005 Worldcon, kindly agreed to arrange a hotel contract for us in Glasgow, using one of their hotels, if we would agree to run the 2006 Eastercon. We currently have an offer outstanding from the Moat House.

Q. Why were you so determined to have a city site?

A. Eastercons need to have a balance between isolated sites and city sites. While some people prefer an iolsated site, others like to go somewhere that is good for tourism, restaurants and so on. We happen to be mainly city site people.

Q. Why Glasgow?

A. Because Glasgow has excellent museums, shopping, restaurants and transport links. And because Glasgow can now claim to be one of the safest cities in the UK.

Q. Really?

A. Yes, see this BBC Report.

Q. Aren't you just riding on the coat-tails of Interaction?

A. To a certain extent, yes, because it is there. But of course many of us are working on Interaction, so they are us.

Q. Doesn't that mean that you'll be too busy to run an Eastercon?

A. Well, not all of us are Interaction staff, and there is some free time between Interaction and Concussion. In any case, as the old saying goes, if you want something done, ask a busy person.

Q. Will there be a Masquerade?

A. Yes. (And we'd be really grateful if a few of you could indicate your intention to compete prior to the convention.)
