Atlantis
The four-star Atlantis hotel will be our main hotel and our party hotel. The hotel is directly connected to the Convention Center by an air-conditioned sky bridge. The four accommodation towers are backed up by nine on-site restaurants including 24-hour full service options. In addition, the hotel has just completed a major upgrade of its pool, fitness center, spa and salon facilities.
Full details on the Atlantis are available via its website but we have brought the relevant information together on our own pages for ease of reference.
Sky Bridge
One of the key features of the Atlantis for our Worldcon is that it is directly connected to the Convention Center by a fully air conditioned sky bridge, opened in November 2008. Need to get from one place to the other? No problem - perfect weather guaranteed, along with a great view. All fully carpeted to a custom design, and completed with imported Michelangelo Marble and Crema Marfil Spanish limestone.
Accommodation
Our main Atlantis block comprises 450 rooms plus 16 suites in a range of sizes. The suites, along with function space, are reserved for parties and convention functions. We have a signed contract for the block with the following negotiated maximum room rates fixed in 2011 dollars.
- We have run-of-house pricing for regular rooms in the Dolphin, Atrium and Luxury Towers, priced at $151 per day for single/double, $161 triple, $171 quad.
- Suite prices will start at $229.
- All of these rates include the mandatory resort fee (see below).
- These are the maximum rates. If there are cheaper rates in 2011, fans may book them and it will apply to the convention's room block.
Resort Fee
The Atlantis charges a mandatory resort fee in return for full access to many amenities that would normally be separately charged. This fee is included in the rates quoted above and includes:
- In-room Wired or Wireless High Speed Internet
- Unlimited Local, 800 and Toll free phone calls
- Valet and self parking
- Extended check-out to 12 noon.
If you are comparing the Renovation rates to those available through other channels, please bear in mind that the resort fee (currently $10) will generally have to be added to the latter.
Check out our Atlantis accommodation page for additional photos of typical rooms at the Atlantis.
Party Suites and Corkage Waiver
As noted above we are holding 16 suites plus function space for parties and convention activities including the con suite. We have a contractually committed corkage waiver allowing us to serve snacks and beverages in both the con suite and the other party suites.
Our main con suite will be in the Paradise Ballroom.
Eating Options
The Atlantis features nine on-site restaurants ranging from fine dining to 24 hour full service restaurants to lighter snacks and coffee shops. We have provided more information on our Atlantis Eating page including links through to the Atlantis's own website for full details on opening hours and menus.
Particular highlights of eating at the Atlantis include fine dining at Bistro Napa, with its 4,000 bottle wine cellar, and Toucan Charlie's Buffet and Grill - regularly voted "Reno's Best Buffet" and "Best Champagne Brunch" by the locals. But we are quite sure that the main attraction for fans will be the All You Can Eat Sushi Bar on the Sky Terrace. The sushi is prepared as you watch, with over 50 types of Nigiri and Maki sushi.
For those with the midnight munchies (as well as staff coming off a late night shift at the Convention Center) there is also the Purple Parrot Café, which serves a full range of meals 24 hours a day - including breakfast, omelettes, burgers, salads, sandwiches, entreés, desserts and pastries.
In addition, room service is also available on a 24 hour basis throughout the hotel.
Amenities
The Atlantis has a full range of amenities starting when you arrive at the hotel, with free airport shuttles, with a journey time of around 10 minutes from the airport, and free parking for those who are driving or renting a car during their stay,
On the luxury side, the hotel offers free cabaret in the casino area. Those wanting a more relaxing experience can choose from:
- Swimming pools: a glass-enclosed indoor pool and Spa as well as an outdoor pool with a large sundeck and Spa, plus a whirlpool, steam room, cold plunge, and sauna.
- A new Fitness Center
- A new full service Spa and Salon.
Interested? How about trying a Peruvian Chocolate Massage? Sea Salt Scrub? Or maybe just a Papaya Enzyme Facial ... all these and many more are on the Spa menu. (Access to the indoor and outdoor pools and whirlpool is free for residents; the Spa and Salon services are separately priced).
All of these facilities are currently undergoing a major upgrade and expansion, re-opening early in 2009. We will bring you additional information and photographs once this work is complete.
