WSFS Business
The World Science Fiction Society (WSFS) is the organization that licences Worldcon. WSFS requires that every Worldcon perform the following functions:
- Administer the Hugo Awards
- Select the site for a future Worldcon (two years hence)
- Hold a Business Meeting
- Present regular financial reports
This page contains information on each of these topics. We have also provided a separate page with answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about WSFS.
WSFS Constitution and Business Meeting
WSFS is governed by a Constitution and Standing Rules, which ensures that the organisation continues effectively from year to year even though the WSFS membership is changing all the time.
WSFS has its own website, which you can find at www.wsfs.org.
Site Selection
Worldcon sites are selected two years in advance, by a secret ballot of WSFS members - which means full supporting and attending members of the administering Worldcons.
This means that the 2013 host site will be selected by a vote at Renovation. The ballot process will open in early 2011 (for mail-in ballots) and continue through to Renovation where it will be possible to vote in person.
A full description of the process, with information for potential bidders and for voters, can be found on our Site Selection page.
Please note that you cannot choose to retain your site selection voting right if transferring your membership, all rights automatically transfer with the membership as explained here.
Financial Reports
Like all Worldcons, Renovation is required to publish regular Financial reports. The first one will be available at Aussiecon 4, the 2010 Worldcon, and will also be published here at the same time.
