Types of Membership
An Attending Membership in Renovation. A very small number of program items may have capacity restrictions or materials fees; these will be announced in advance. This membership includes all voting rights in the World Science Fiction Society. This means that you get the right to nominate for the 2011 and 2012 Hugo Awards, and to vote on the 2011 Hugo Awards. You also may attend and participate in the WSFS Business Meeting, which is held at a Worldcon and makes the rules for the Hugo Awards and the selection of future Worldcons. You will also be eligible to vote on the site of the 2013 Worldcon (subject to payment of an additional fee that makes you a supporting member of the 2013 Worldcon). You receive all generally distributed Worldcon publications, including Progress Reports and the Souvenir Book.
Supporting members can upgrade to an attending membership at any time by paying the current difference between the rates ($130 at the present time).
The Membership Installment Plan enables the cost of an Attending membership to be spread over a number of quarterly payments.
Young Adult (YA) memberships are available for all people aged 17 to 21 on August 17, 2011, less any applicable voting/supporter discounts. This class of membership carries the same rights as a Full Attending membership (see above) including the rights to vote in the Hugo Awards and to receive all convention publications. Individuals in this age group can also be included in Family Memberships (see below).
YA memberships can only be transferred to people who also meet the YA age criteria.
Individuals who have already purchased Full Attending memberships, but are eligible for the reduced YA rate, can obtain a refund of their overpayment by contacting Renovation at memberships@renovationsf.org.
Child memberships are available for all children aged 16 or under on August 17, 2011 and will include around 8 hours of free professional childcare for children aged 12 or under. Children aged 6 or under on August 17, 2011 may alternatively be registered free of charge as Kids-in-Tow but with no inclusive childcare. (Although there is no charge, we encourage you to register your Kids-in-Tow as it helps us to understand the number of young children who may be at the convention).
Attending Memberships for Children and Kids-in-Tow include admission to Renovation under the supervision of an adult, but do not include publications or voting rights for the Hugo Awards or Worldcon Site Selection. Child care provisions will not be finalized until much nearer to the convention, but all children in any convention-provided child care facility will need to be registered members of the convention. Children and Kids-in-Tow may have full Attending memberships (and thus have publications and voting rights) instead of Child or Kids-in-Tow memberships, but must still be supervised by an adult.
Family memberships can be purchased for 2 adults and any number of dependent children aged 16 or under on August 17, 2011, for a price of US$460 less any applicable discounts. Children under 12 will receive the same 8 hours of free childcare as with a freestanding child membership.
Young adult family members, aged 17 to 21 on August 17, 2011 may be included in a Family membership for the additional cost of US$25 for each young adult.
A Supporting Membership includes all of the rights and privileges of an attending membership except the right to attend Renovation. You get the Hugo Award and Site Selection voting rights, and will receive all generally distributed publications. This membership allows you to support the Worldcon and participate in it without actually attending the convention. You can always upgrade your membership from Supporting to Attending by paying the difference between the "New Supporting" and "New Attending" membership rates in force at the time of conversion. If you voted in the 2011 Worldcon Site Selection election, you are automatically a Supporting member of Renovation as a result of paying your US$45 voting fee.
