Accessible Accommodation
Loncon 3’s regular accommodation booking service will open on 2 January 2014. However, we recognise that some people with mobility/access issues need to start planning for an August convention earlier than this, and to do so they need to know they will be able to reserve a suitable hotel room.
From experience we believe there are two types of accessible accommodation which our members may require:
- A DDA-compliant disabled room with specialist features such as a mobile hoist, visible fire alarm, and wider doors for wheelchair or heavy duty scooter access.
- A room onsite which is accessible for people with mobility issues, preferably including space in which to manoeuvre a standard mobility scooter, but where people don’t need the specialist features of a disabled room.
To ensure we can meet both types of need, up to the limitations of the site, we have taken two actions.
First, we have reserved as many as possible of the disabled rooms available in the onsite hotels, so that we can meet as many requests for disabled rooms as possible. Precise details of the numbers of rooms available in each hotel can be found in the table at the bottom of this page. We currently believe all disabled rooms are suitable for wheelchair and mobility scooter users.
Next, we have put in place a service through which accessible accommodation, of either type, can be requested in advance of the regular booking service opening. Requests should be made by 15 December 2013 using the linked Accessible Accommodation Request Form.
After this date, all hotel rooms are best booked through our hotel agency, Infotel, when they begin to take bookings. You will be able to specify any requirement for disabled rooms through Infotel.
The results of the initial request process will therefore be emailed to you by 2 January 2014.

Notes:
- Although all onsite hotels are located close to an ExCeL entrance, Loncon 3 is using facilities at the east end of the building; for hotels at the west end, add another 500 metres or so from the convention space, although within the building and along a wide and even concourse.
- Where described as ‘Probably OK’, we currently believe the rooms have enough open space to allow scooters to manoeuvre, but need to confirm this with actual trial runs.
- On room rates, most hotels come with full breakfast except for the Aloft which offers a “grab-and-go” breakfast service. A full breakfast is available from the hotel restaurant, but is not included in the room rate. (Room rates are still being finalised but the “expected rates” will not rise from those given here.)
