Access Services
Loncon 3 is committed to an accessible Worldcon that supports the varied needs of our members who may need support, to enable everyone to enjoy the convention to the full.
We will be implementing a variety of arrangements between August 2013 and the start of 2014 to facilitate access to the convention for all attendees.
This will include, but is not necessarily limited to:
- provision for the hire of mobility scooters and wheelchairs (see below)
- reserved seating at events and panels
- a reserved booking service for rooms in the nearby Aloft hotel and the accessible rooms in other hotels – based on need, rather than speed of response
- access for all programme participants, for which the programme team will be looking to capture requirements at the longer stage of their participant survey - please contact Programme direct if you have any queries in the meantime.
More information on these and other access arrangements will be publicised on our website as they are confirmed.
Access at the Convention
The ExCeL centre is a new venue which is compliant with the Equality Act 2010, as are the neighbouring hotels.
ExCeL has been purposely designed and built to allow unrestricted access to disabled visitors, conforming to Part M of the Building Regulations (Access to and Use of Buildings). Further information about ExCeL and access can be found on their website.
Information on accessible travel around London will be included as the travel section of this website is developed.
Scooters and Wheelchairs
We are currently talking to a number of suppliers about supplying us with electric scooters and manual wheelchairs for Loncon 3 members to use around the convention and campus.
We will provide more information via this page once we have completed negotiations. There will be a charge for scooters and wheelchairs, and they will need to be reserved in advance.
Publications
We hope to have the printed pocket programme available in large-type format. If you are interested in this service, please contact us so we can make sure the supply meets the demand.
Contact us
Our aim is to help provide the assistance required for the special needs of Loncon 3 members. If you or your family or friends have any special needs or questions about accessibility, please contact us at access@ukin2014.org. Our Access service is part of the Services team, which is led by Carolina Gómez-Lagerlöf.
