Tourism in the UK
This page sets out some initial information about tourist information most closely connected with the location for Loncon 3. More information – covering tourism in and around London, and in the UK as a whole – will be provided here by September 2013. Further detail will continue to be provided as we get closer to Loncon 3 and it becomes more relevant.
Tourist attractions close to ExCeL include:
- The Thames Barrier: London’s main flood defence is a barrier that can be lifted out of the river bed to stop high tides from flowing in and flooding central London. It’s just to the south of the ExCeL site, although unfortunately the visitor centre is on the other side of the river and there is no river crossing nearby… yet!
- Maritime Greenwich: now a World Heritage Site. Points of interest include the Greenwich Meridian (which is lit up by laser at night), the Royal Observatory, the Royal Naval College, the National Maritime Museum and the Queen’s House.
- Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park: following the 2012 London Olympics, the north section opened in July 2013 and the south section is due to re-open in spring 2014.
As you’ll deduce from those links, there’s a wealth of information to explore at the Visit London website and the national tourist information sites:
